| I. General Eligibility Requirements |
Identification: |
A scorebook will be issued for each dog that competes in American Street Ring. A dog's scorebook will be the record of its trial history and include all trials entered and scores obtained. Each dog entered in a trial must have a scorebook. In order to obtain a scorebook, a scorebook application must be completed and submitted to the Board of Directors. The scorebook application must be accompanied by two clear photographs of the dog for which the scorebook is being issued (one side-standing, and one front-sitting), along with a nominal processing fee of $10. Other identifying information will be recorded on the application such as breed, color, height, weight and any permanent identification such as a tattoo or microchip number (permanent identification is not required). A scorebook can be acquired at a dog's first trial. |
Control: |
All dogs competing in ASR MUST be under the complete control of their respective handlers at all times. If, at ANY TIME, the Evaluator should deem it necessary for reasons of safety, the participation of the Team may be discontinued. The Evaluator maintains the right to refuse entry from, or discontinue the participation of, any dog or person in a trial. Reasons include, but are not limited to, bad sportsmanship, dangerous, or disruptive behavior, failure to obey the instructions of the Evaluator, or the rules of ASR, abuse or mistreatment of dogs, decoys, or spectators, use of profanity, or any behavior that would reflect poorly on the ASR organization as a whole. All decisions of the Evaluator are final. |
Dress Code: |
All handlers are required to dress appropriately for rigorous outdoor activity. Long pants, sleeved shirt (no tank tops, or sleeveless T-shirts, no clothing with logos or slogans that may be considered offensive), and shoes that completely cover the feet are required. Handler's vests are permissible. The dress code is practical for the safety of the handler. Remember that handlers may be required to move quickly through thick woods or across slick flooring while their dog is engaging a decoy. Shorts and sandals would not be appropriate for these situations. |
Practical Obedience: |
The ASR program is designed to strongly and fairly test/evaluate the defense drive, hunt drive, fight drive, courage, endurance and strength of character of each dog entered. Precision or 'show-type' obedience is not a necessity; therefore, the obedience exercises remain basic but practical. |
Eligibility for Protection Phase: |
In order to be eligible to compete in the Protection Phase of an ASR trial, the dog/handler team (hereafter, the "Team") must have obtained a passing score in the Obedience Phase of the program at the level in which the handler-dog team desires to compete. Failure to pass the Obedience Phase with a score of at least 70% will automatically cause the exclusion of the team from the remainder of the trial. |
Awarding Certificates of Title: |
The ASR Entry Level is a test of aptitude for protection work and requires one score of 80% or better to successfully achieve. Levels 1 through 3 require 2 scores of at least 80% or one score of at least 90% to achieve the Certificate of Title and thus become eligible to compete at the next level. A score of 70-79% is considered a passing score, but does not count as a score towards a Certificate of Title. The following is an explanation of the scores required to achieve Certificates of Title: |
|
Entry Level: One score of 80% (136/170) or higher is required to earn the Entry Level Certificate of Title. Level 1: Two scores of at least 80% (240/300) or one score of at least 90% (270/300) or higher are required to earn the Level 1 Certificate of Title. Level 2: Two scores of at least 80% (320/400) or one score of at least 90% (360/400) or higher are required to earn the Level 2 Certificate of Title. Level 3: Two scores of at least 80% (400/500) or one score of at least 90% (450/500) or higher are required to earn the Level 3 Certificate of Title. |
